Public Speaking

Another quick post!

I gave my second speech last Thursday in Public Speaking. I informed the class about the numerous uses of Aloe Vera. While doing my research on it, I learned that there are scientists in Spain who have been researching ways to use it as a preservative! Sounds kind of gross, but they say it's tasteless, colorless, and odorless. Anyway, I thought my speech went well, definitely better than my first one, but my teacher actually criticized my second speech more than my first! I still made a 'B' though, so that's okay. He did say that I had very good facial expressions. My next speech is due on July 8th, that's the persuasive speech.

I made an 'A' on my math test!

I went to see Ingrid Michaelson in Greenville, all by my lonesome, on Monday. Greg Laswell opened for her, he was so good! I bought two of his CDs after the show. Ingrid was awesome, she is so much fun to watch.

My experience with drugstore.com

I placed an order with drugstore.com last week for toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and body wash. At the time that I placed my order I was informed that two of the items, the conditioner and body wash, were currently back ordered and would ship separately from the rest of my order...no big deal. I was getting a pretty good deal compared to how much the products cost at my local stores.

The three items that were in stock were shipped quickly and arrived within just a few days after I ordered them. However, when I opened the package there were only two items in the package!  They forgot to send my shampoo. I had to go to their website and send an e-mail to customer service. A customer service rep replied to my e-mail and told me that, since I paid with PayPal, I had to call them to have my missing item shipped to me. I handled that and they shipped the item out that very same day. I understand that people make mistakes, so I wasn't too irritated about this.

The back ordered items were sent just a few days after the first shipment, and they arrived in a beaten up box but otherwise in good condition. Both items were there.

The missing shampoo arrived yesterday. I could smell a fragrance coming out of the box before I even opened it and it turned out that the top was almost completely unscrewed and some of the shampoo had leaked out into the box. I didn't think very much had leaked out at first, so I wasn't too worried about it. When I took the shampoo out of the box I saw that part of the box was soaked in shampoo and the bottle was covered with it. I'm going to e-mail them today about it and see what they'll do about it, because I didn't pay $8 for shampoo in a box.

I got my hair did today (see new profile picture)! It's pretty cute, if I may say so myself.

I'm half-assed working on my speech for Thursday. I've decided to give an informative speech on the uses of Aloe vera. I might change my mind after thinking about it some more, but for now it seems like a good idea. I'm sure I can come up with a great speech about it, it's just that I won't be able to deliver the speech as well as I can write it. Maybe I should become a speech writer, that way I won't have to present the speeches that I write.

I also have my second math test on Thursday. I am so lost in that class. That little Chinese man don't make no sense! He draws pictures of rabbits and airplanes to illustrate problems...I understand that might be helpful to some people, but that doesn't help me. I need to have the problem/solution explained to me. I can't look at drawings and figure out what the heck is supposed to be going on! When he's asked to explain how to do something, he can't even manage that; he goes up to the board and works out the problem without explaining WHY he does things. He just does it. That's exactly how the little demon lady, Ms. Gowan, "taught" when I was in high school and I spent two years being hopelessly lost in her class (two different classes, not the same!).

Anyway...I'm sleepy.

It seems that my speech went better than I thought! I made a 'B' on it and was only two points away from an 'A'. I lost those two points because it wasn't as long as it needed to be. It would have been long enough if I gave the speech the way that I wrote it, but I kind of panicked and forgot the last part of it. My next speech is due next Thursday, it's going to be an informative speech. I need to go ahead and start working on it so I'll know what all I'm going to say and hopefully not forget anything this time!
